🥂 An Andalusian Gastro Weekend to savour at Almohalla 51, Archidona

Thursday 25 – Monday 29 September 2025

If your idea of heaven involves five courses of exquisite plates, around an intimate communal candlelit table, with a backdrop of rolling Andalusian hills, then our upcoming foodie weekend at Almohalla 51 is the getaway you’ve been dreaming of.

From Thursday 25 to Monday 29 September, we’re inviting a small group of food lovers to join us in the heart of Archidona, a whitewashed gem in inland Andalusia, for a long weekend of taste indulgence, connection, and culinary discovery.

The Flavours of Andalusia

Andalusia’s cuisine is deeply rooted in tradition, shaped by centuries of Moorish influence and Mediterranean abundance. During your stay, we’ll celebrate the region’s incredible produce—expect wild boar, delicate venison, rich rabbit dishes, and freshly caught Mediterranean fish, all sourced locally and prepared with love by our guest chef Rory.

Each evening, as the sun sets behind the olive groves, we’ll gather together for dinner—it’s an experience. Intimate, relaxed, and full of Mediterranean flavour, where conversation flows as easily as the wine, and every dish tells a story.

Beyond the Table – Exploring Archidona & Beyond

By day, you’ll have time to explore the cultural and natural beauty of the region. Stroll through Archidona’s historic streets, browse local markets bursting with sun-ripened produce, or venture further afield to discover ancient hilltop towns and hidden monasteries.

Our recommendations for lunches, include multi, award-winning places, such as Rio Frio for caviar, smoked sturgeon and trout tartar. Antequera for its special Tapas restaurant.  Or you could choose to visit an organic bodega for wine tasting and try local organic olive oil tasting. Alternatively, drive to the coast for a simple but-oh-so-good beach lunch of BBQ’d sardines, with huge tomatoes drenched in olive oil and garlic washed down with a beer or glass of chilled Arreabenia.  Or simply wander down for a local restaurant lunch, then come back, relax and take in the views from the pool with a chilled glass of something local in hand.  It’s your time—slow it down and savour it.

A Taste of Togetherness

What truly sets this weekend apart is the sense of connection. With a small group of like-minded guests, each night feels like a dinner party among friends. Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with a friend, you’ll find yourself part of something warm, welcoming, and unforgettable. We’re keeping the group small (ten in total) to make it feel more like staying with friends than signing up for a tour.

Each night, Rory will be cooking just for our guests, here at the hotel. No restaurant bookings, no crowds, no menus watered down for tourists. Just real food, real wine, and the chance to properly enjoy where you are.

You will retire to Almohalla 51’s five boutique bedrooms, a casa rural steeped in history with it’s ancient twisted ceiling beams and comfy beds. Guaranteed a good night’s sleep before breakfasting to the sound of birds.

Our Chef

We’ve invited our friend Rory, to come over and cook for us. He has spent time researching and has created a mouthwatering one-off Andalusian menu, Inspired by the Land, designed to showcase the region’s food in a way most travelers never get to experience.

Rory, a long-time restaurateur and ingredient obsessive, spent 16 years in the hospitality industry, learning what makes food truly satisfying — food that’s simple, generous and full of flavour.

He’s worked across fine dining Thai, rustic French bistros and Mediterranean kitchens, starting front of house and eventually managing entire teams — but it was time spent in the kitchen that shaped his approach: if you don’t see a dish and instantly want to eat it, it doesn’t make the menu.

The menu Rory has designed for us, blends tradition with a fresh take and brings together everything he loves about Mediterranean cooking — clean flavours, true Andalucian seasonal ingredients and a respect for produce that speaks for itself.  Expect game, fresh fish and lesser-seen local cuts prepared simply and with care. It’s a personal love letter to the cuisine of Andalucía.

The trial run

In May, Rory came to immerse himself in the local cuisine, experience and cook with Andalusian seasonal ingredients first-hand. We had our own foodie heaven with Rory. His obvious delight in tasting and trying local produce such as the huge range of chorizo, cured hams, morcilla, cheeses and specialist foods such as smoked sturgeon and trout tartar in Rio Frio inspired his menu. Rory then trialed a specially created 7-course Andalucían taster menu for a small number of specially invited foodie guests. It was a resounding success! All guests loved the meal, the flavours and when asked for feedback, struggled to find anything to improve!

Join us and experience for yourself

Our Gastro Weekend at Almohalla 51, will be a small, personal, food-focused escape, built around the flavours of this incredible region. This isn’t just about great food. It’s about falling in love with the ingredients, flavours and heart of the region — and experiencing the good life as it’s meant to be enjoyed.

It’s relaxed, personal, and something we’ve created simply because it’s the kind of weekend we’d want to go on ourselves.

It’s not a retreat. It’s not a food tour. It’s just a few days spent eating fantastic food, drinking, talking and exploring, at the pace we think holidays should be.
